Our highly trained staff are members of the SAVT and MAHTA.  In Saskatchewan they are designated as Veterinary Technicians, and in Manitoba they are designated as Animal Health Technicians.

Our Veterinary Technicians and Animal Health Technologists:

  • Karen Sumner
    •  I graduated as a 'Veterinary Nurse' in England in 1992 from the Royal College of Veterinary Nurses in London.  I worked for a veterinary charity in Yorkshire England for 10 years and another veterinary clinic for 7 years.  I came to Canada in December 2006, with 5 dogs and a cat, most of whom had come home from the vets 'for the weekend' at some point in my career and never got round to going back. Before my employment with BorderVet I worked with 100% small animals so it was a bit of a shock trying to adjust to cattle and large animal work. I am now living on a farm with 54 cows, 2 horses, 4 dogs, 4 barn cats and a house cat, so am getting used to the variety!
  • Lisa Afdahl
    • I was born and raised in Pincher Creek, AB.  I am currently a Veterinary Tech at BorderVet Animal Health.  I graduated from Lakeland College in Vermilion, AB in 2007.  From there I went to do my practicum and take a full time job at Equine Services Limited near Calgary,AB. Equine Services is an equine veterinary clinic/Stallion Station/Breeding Facility.  There I worked as a Veterinary Tech/ Farm Manager until September 2009 when I moved to Pierson,MB and came to work for BorderVet Animal Health.
  • Alisa Earl
    • Alisa grew up on a farm near Manor, SK.  She graduated from Veterinary Technology at Kelsey in Saskatoon in 1991 and started working at the clinic in Carnduff right after.  Alisa has 3 children and enjoys spending time with them as well as barrel racing and coaching figure skating.  Alisa and her husband Kevin purchased a farm at Carievale and are working on getting set up to move out there in the near future.
